Arduino UNO + ESP8266 Module + Relay

hi all,

this first time posting please gentle me :

i trying connect arduino uno using esp8266 wifi module internet (iot) control relay.

i have writen code arduino unit allows me use serial monitor toggle relay switch ( light ) on , off. works well. have since purchased esp8266 wifi module connect arduino unit internet, cannot find simple nor reliable/easy tutorial explain how connect arduino unit using esp8266 www. have tried cayenne tutorials cannot see code esp8266 module through arduino uno, have searched endless amounts of time on internet , struggling.

can please kindly help?

my goals
1) using smart phone toggle arduino relay on , off.

this relay connected front room light , need read push button input local use, not important yet. want unit working first.

so have 1 output (to relay) , 1 input (from local switch)?  don't see why need uno.  esp module way more wifi module.  is, powerful processor.  have limited io pins can fixed.  programming esp arduino ide possible using arduino core..  need code on esp, anyway, unless want @ commands (which clumsy , limited in opinion).   which esp module have?  suggest -7 or -12 variants have more pins broken out.
