PDF prints garbage

on occasion have pdf documents fine in reader, when printed characters turn garbage. has happened on 3 different computers (all windows xp) , 2 different printers (both hp laserjets different models).

any suggestions on how correct this? if document prints out garbage , reprint (without re-opening or anything) prints fine second time.

also, documents plain text , not images. typically around 14k in size.

thanks in advance.

i have similar problem seems isolated printing 1 pdf form old toshiba multi function unit. i've tried changing out both postscript , pcl printer drivers on both server , locally. appears correlated toshiba printer losing configs , needing reconfigured; or possibly rollout of acrobat 8 standard.
