Thread: Hello. I have a problem with blank discs not being recognized.

hello, first post here. have been using ubuntu long time never signed here, looking forward meeting new friends.

asked question on linuxquestions.org , didn't replies, have come here.

some prerequisites:

• i running ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala , using brasero disc burner utility dvd-rw discs.
• i have ez-dub lite-on ezau422 external dvd/cd rewritable drive hooked acer aspire 1 d250-1026 netbook via usb cable.

here's description of problem:
works when disc on put in; mounts , functions perfectly.

after blank dvd-rw brasero, can't use disc @ all. doesn't mount, isn't read , not there. wanted perform rather trivial task of burning iso disc try sabayon linux.

i have attached 3 thumbnails/pictures of problems:

• the far left (1st) image shows happens when try when blanked dvd-rw in drive.
• the middle 1 (2nd) depicts happens when insert disc content on it.
• and far right (3rd) 1 displays 2 terminals showing output of:
  code:

  dmesg | tail mount

  • the left terminal shows output of commands when disc content inserted.
  • the right terminal shows happens when put in blank one.

if additional information required, or if me post text instead of pictures, not hesitate.

there bunch of threads here same problem, cd/dvd burner not recognize blank disks. started having problem jaunty , same story karmic.

have 2 machines, , 2 dvd burners.

can put either burner in jaunty/karmic machine, , not recognize blank disk -- not using brasero, , not using k3b. can put either burner in debian machine , work flawlessly under squeeze.
