Thread: Sound problems (after a bad shutdown)

i having trouble getting 8.10 box restart... appeared hung on line talking alsa (i don't recall said). so, powered off *gulp*... started , volume icon indicated muted. unmuted and, lo , behold, have no sound. so, tried follow alsa upgrade instructions @ http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...4&postcount=24

when tried run second script:
code:
sudo sh ./alsa_2.sh
i got this:
cp: target `/lib/modules/2.6.2*/ubuntu/media/snd-hda-intel/snd-hda-intel.ko' not directory
cp: cannot stat `/usr/src/alsa/alsa-driver*/modules/*': no such file or directory
cp: omitting directory `/lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/kernel/sound/'
cp: omitting directory `/lib/modules/2.6.27-14-generic/kernel/sound/'
cp: omitting directory `/lib/modules/2.6.27-15-generic/kernel/sound/'
and volume indicates it's muted again, , if try adjust error:

the volume control did not find elements and/or devices control. means either don't have right gstreamer plugins installed, or don't have sound card configured.

can remove volume control panel right-clicking speaker icon on panel , selecting "remove panel" menu.
so... do fix mess?

anyone?
