now have mental image in mind, have decisions make. first how make tom stand out other players , rest of field of view. brighten him up, exposure of image suffer. lets assume exposure perfect entire field of view. instead of brightening him, lets darken rest of field of view. create appear moving spotlight on him, in reality creating moving shadow on rest of field. taking piece of cardboard hole in it, , moving between light source , ground. cardboard throws shadow, hole lets full illumination through. going create piece of cardboard, in titler in pe , punch hole in it, first need duplicate our 30 sec. clip on video track 1. alt-click on it, select video portion, not need duplicate audio, hit ctrl-c copy clipboard. because pe not allow select track paste to, need position cti (current time indicator) end of our clip, there nothing else. easiest way hit end, go end of our timeline. now, ctrl-v paste copy of clip onto timeline. next move copy video track 2 , align original clip on video track 1. snap feature allows align cti head of our original clip drag our duplicate point, onto video track 2. check 2 clips aligned , did not exceed snap function.
we set create our highlight titler. in toolbar, click title>new default still. creates new title default text box. dont want text, click on selection tool (the little arrow @ top of titlers toolbox. when see bounding box around our text box, hit delete remove it. now, go toolbox , select ellipse tool. click in our title , shift-drag create circle. if set @ default, tt appear white on black field. size size of tom. can fine-tune size later.

place new title on video track 3 @ start of our original clip (video track 1) , our aligned duplicate clip (video track 2). notice 5 sec. long (the normal default), want click on tail of title clip , drag full length (30 sec.) of our other 2 clips. if play our timeline now, have white circle on area of 2 clips below. also, see white circle , duplicate clip, since above our original clip , obscure it.

now have want our background, tom dark , flat. not want. want toms image come original clip on video track 1, , image of else come adjusted duplicate clip on video track 2. track matte key effect used. drag track matte key effect our duplicate clip on video track 2. duplicate clip selected if in properties panel, see track matte key effect has been added. click on , hit edit effect button again. give control of how effect works. has 3 settings: matte drop down, composite using drop-down , reverse check box. matte, chose video 3 (our title) drop-down. composite using lets choose matte alpha drop-down. now, can see in monitor panel not want. because have white circle in our title on video track 3, background image clip on video track 1 , exposed, while tom coming darkened , flattened clip on video track 2. third setting in track matte key effect, reverse comes in. now, click checkbox. toms image should coming original clip on video track 1 , background duplicate clip on video track 2.
