Trying to install Joomla on a server with php in safemode but.. - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

i'm trying install joomla on server php in safemode but... it's not working.

i'm going step step process found here: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,124522.0.html

it comes bit unstuck when locate , install tar.gz file.
i error message (in german) translates, roughly, errors provide listing "cms"  :-\ though i've built own website using html , css never used mysql , php.

i've looked everywhere answer problem have had no luck.
i've been sat @ pc (on windows xp - home ed - service pack 2) 10 hours trying install joomla! , i'm getting annoyed myself now  :d

my web host lycos.co.uk , says i'm using mysql version: 5 , php version:  4.3.10 + 5.0.2

i've ftp'd files www directory, files current site when used sub directory didn't far cms problem!

my friend told me easy!  :d

if i've missed information out (more likely) please let me know , i'll rectify :)

when uploaded files, did upload tar.gz file, or contents of file?

Error Message when accessing Adobe

i downloaded recent adobe reader 8.1 , having problems opening program. i receive error message "adobe reader 8.1 has encountered problem , needs close. sorry inconvenience" i'm using windows xp i have same problem after upgrading adobe reader 7 reader 8.1.2. have repaired without success @ least 5 times. have uninstalled, downloaded, , reinstalled reader 8.1.2 @ least 5 times no success in correcting issue. i run xp media center.
