Thread: Booting from Ubuntu live USB

ok, i'll try , give info know. have live usb of 9.10 "karmic". downloaded live cd, booted , used live usb creator inside ubuntu make it. found computer old boot usb, , after googling some, ran guide: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/bootfromusb. when attempting follow instructions found in "booting kernel bootable cd" section, realized had been written ubuntu 9.04 "jaunty". not current, ran following 3 problems (please keep in mind doing of live cd):

1. second step commands copy "initrd.gz" boot folder with
code:
cp /cdrom/casper/initrd.gz iso/boot/
.
when attempting code, got error "initrd.gz" did not exist. when navigated /cdrom/casper, found "initrd.lz", not "initrd.gz". decided maybe should copy file instead, did. leads first problem. later instructed run
code:
sudo mkinitramfs -o iso/boot/initrd.gz <kernelversion>
and later still command mentions .gz. did run commands is, resulting in final folder "iso" containing both initrd.gz , initrd.lz. cannot right.

did search of site linked above, , did find in "booting kernel internal hard drive", several mentions of "initrd.lz" in same commands found in section using. , @ end of section "tested karmic koala alpha 3" found, theory this, , let me know if right. think section using has not been updated though 1 of other sections has. should replace of "initrd.gz"'s "initrd.lz"'s? solution?

2. has been solved, had independant research it. 1 step requires input linux kernel version have installed on computer. google figured out 9.10 uses kernel 2.6.31-14-generic, problem solved.

3. last command giving me problems this:

cp /usr/lib/grub/i386-pc/stage2_eltorito iso/boot/grub/
.

"stage2_eltorito" not exist. sure enough, when navigated directory, there no stage2_eltorito found...so downloaded "grub-0.97.tar.gz" ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/grub/, , per instructions in this thread, opened (but not extracted) gz archive, opened (not extracted) tar archive, opened grub-0.97 folder, opened stage2 folder, , copied start_eltorito.s file hd...will work stage2_eltorito?

can offer.

p.s. if not reply 3 or 4 hours now, i'll try have above.

Sketch upload fails with Java error (___REMOVE___/bin/avrdude)!

Arduino Uno + KTY81/210 temperature sensor

hi, sorry, new , unsure lot of things, need clarification. haven't found information explains how , why things work, "do this, that" i following guide ( arduino-thermistor-temperature-sensor-tutorial ) connect thermistor arduino uno. here temperature sensor information: temp. sensor 2000r +-1% to92 part.no.:   kty81-210 name:   temp. sensor 2000r +-1% to92 description:   2.5mm, 1980...2020ohm, -55...+150°c and here sensor's data-sheet: sensor data-sheet i have connected same way in guide. works , values being serial printed. what don't understand: 1. thermistor's , resistor's ohm value should equal, correct? in case 2000 ohm? 2. thermistor has ptc, i'm guessing have invert math or use ntc thermistor instead correct values?
