Adobe Reader 9 Has Updating Problem(s)?
adobe reader 9 downloaded , installed successfully. application's fundamental features functioning normally. problem experienced when checking updates (for installed version) within application clicking menu 'help' , submenu 'checking updates...'. 'adobe_updater.exe' file won't execute through completion. being -- checking updates via internet adobe's website.
the 884 topics in current users forum 'adobe reader' has been scanned specific problem being experienced. new user forum couple of observations: 1)category 'adobe reader' forum doesn't differentiate between versions -- versions grouped in same generic category. & 2)there no search function available narrow down viable topics (after all, there 884 topics tediouly search through in category 'abobe reader'). typically there not many categories many topics listed. anyway, point being search engine needs added (that address these 2 points) eliminate users not willing plod through long list of topics, thereby reducing adding of new topics related listed.
a little background. system being used dell 'dimension 8300' windows xp pro (sp3), pentium 4, 1 gb ram, 102 gb harddrive, , usual malware protection software. have re-downloaded , re-installed 'adobe reader 9' same problem being experienced. problem appears have how 'adobe updater' application within 'adobe reader 9' written. stated initially, current version won't check updates within 'adobe reader 9' application itself, @ least when manually initiated user. supposedly 'adobe updater' can check updates when 'adobe reader 9' started, if auto-update option selected menu drill-down: 'edit', 'preferences...', 'general', 'check updates'. option selected (box checked), yet updates not being checked. since updates not checked when manually initiated, there no reason believe can checked automatically. not, again due how 'adobe updater' written.
having cursorily gone through 884 topics listed, several found related 'adobe reader' not updating it's supposed to. apparently problem related updating has (does still?) exist in versions prior 'adobe reader 9'.
