Unkown file type

hi, using reader v8.1.2. far rememeber have not had problem prior today when received email number of pdf files attachments. when select 1 read dialog box options 'open' or 'cancel', above 2 buttons says 'unkown file type' when click on open message reads ' file not have program associated performing action, create association in folder options control panel'

when in control panel @ folder options, pdf files set open adobe reader.

i thought may problem @ senders end, have sent pdf file created myself email attachment other email account , same thing has happened.

anyone assist please?

what e-mail program?

Error Message when accessing Adobe

i downloaded recent adobe reader 8.1 , having problems opening program. i receive error message "adobe reader 8.1 has encountered problem , needs close. sorry inconvenience" i'm using windows xp i have same problem after upgrading adobe reader 7 reader 8.1.2. have repaired without success @ least 5 times. have uninstalled, downloaded, , reinstalled reader 8.1.2 @ least 5 times no success in correcting issue. i run xp media center.
