Thread: Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter issues

basically few weeks ago decided try linux, in particular ubuntu. have installed in windows 7 partition willing take full plunge , switch way. issue cannot connect wireless internet. states "device not ready". wireless turned on on laptop, near source, have tried making manual connection network setup. tried hardware tester , found ethernet , wireless hardware (broadcom 802.11g network adapter).
went package thing , looked broadcam. found package installed. tried manually with:

sudo apt-get install bcmwl-modaliases
e: not lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11: resource temporarily unavailable)
e: unable lock administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), process using it?

heard try "sudo apt-get install bcm43xx-fwcutter" , did couldnt find it.

stated before new linux i'm missing easy
beg patiance learn new operating system.

i had same problem when replaced windows xp on laptop ubuntu 9.04. built in broadcom wireless adapter stopped working. during process of troubleshooting happened plug in usb wireless adapter , pleasantly surprised see connection established internet. once laptop on line of course run system updates. couple of days later system automatically reported new broadcom driver, albeit unsupported 1 had been found , if use it. when accepted that, adapter inside laptop started working , did not need usb adapter more.
when upgraded 9.10 same story unfolded again.
fortuitous rather researched solution works. if can lay hands on usb adapter way forward easy.
