Thread: Corrupt File System, How to Recover?

hello,

have acer aspire 1 running nbr 9.10. few days ago "went wonky", wouldn't boot , seem start , shut off before getting logon screen. managed boot usb stick , run check , fix in gparted. found slew of errors in file system. unfortunately, still won't boot, hangs. assume of boot files damaged.

have 2 problems:

1. there way repair damage? or wipe disk , start over?

2. need e-mail off of hard drive. can mount drive after booting usb stick, thunderbird directory locked. there way around this?

thanks!

boot usb device, open terminal, , type:

code:
sudo fsck -a /dev/sda
substitute device label 1 in example above. if need copy files drive, use nautilus root. press alt-f2 , type:

code:
gksudo nautilus
the above command open file manger in root mode , allow access files need.
