What's a 'breakout'?

i reading tutorial on using nrf24l01 pcb and on page 2 find
a closer @ mirf-v2 breakout of nrf24l0.

what 'breakout'?  search of forum more little inconclusive.

a "breakout" board chip relatively simple board containing chip, perhaps components required chip operate, , connectors easier use bare chip, comes far short of being complete product.
for example, sparkfun sells large number of "breakout modules" modern chips available in tiny surface mount packages (which difficult hobbyists solder), set small number of pins on 0.1inch centers (easy solder, or plug breadboard.)  arduino referred breakout board atmega avr chip, , mirf board document refers has nrf24l01 chip plus support components (bypass caps, voltage regulator, crystal), antenna connector, , 6 "commonly used" data signals on 0.1" header.
