Is my arduino uno R3 fried?

hi new electronics, specially micro controllers , stuff. java/android programmer profession. creating autonomous robot stuck due problem. problem have been using arduino uno motor shield l293d http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/mtywmfgxnjaw/z/70eaaoswvzrxw-s7/$_12.jpg  and bluetooth module hc05  everything when connected shield arduino, checked code using 4 small motors (2.5-3.7v). arduino functioning code able operate motors on signal.

after check when added 4 motors shield in  m1, m2, m3,m4 12v battery of  1 amp. there sudden buzz , 1 ic l293d on motor shield got fried. don't know because of wire mess because wires time not tight , neat. after gold thing on arduino middle between usb , dc connector getting hot without usage. (i have replaced ics new one). when connected seems ok , robot working fine arduino last time drawing power shield (12v battery pack). , arduino not taking power hence giving power usb can't keep usb connected. tried dc connector jack. not working too. vin socket not working power too. ony usb working. tried connect 9v battery 5v pin near vin , worked after hc05 stopped working working fine usb.

my questions -

1. why gold thing hot (it wasn't happening earlier per memory).
2. arduino got problem if yes can solve it?. if yes how.
3. if arduino got fried precautions shall take protect next arduino.

please me it. lot.

Sketch upload fails with Java error (___REMOVE___/bin/avrdude)!

Arduino Uno + KTY81/210 temperature sensor

hi, sorry, new , unsure lot of things, need clarification. haven't found information explains how , why things work, "do this, that" i following guide ( arduino-thermistor-temperature-sensor-tutorial ) connect thermistor arduino uno. here temperature sensor information: temp. sensor 2000r +-1% to92 part.no.:   kty81-210 name:   temp. sensor 2000r +-1% to92 description:   2.5mm, 1980...2020ohm, -55...+150°c and here sensor's data-sheet: sensor data-sheet i have connected same way in guide. works , values being serial printed. what don't understand: 1. thermistor's , resistor's ohm value should equal, correct? in case 2000 ohm? 2. thermistor has ptc, i'm guessing have invert math or use ntc thermistor instead correct values?
