Thread: No Resume after Suspend on Dell Vostro 1000
after installing 9.10 (amd64 version) on dell vostro 1000 friend, found out system not resume after suspend ram, "black screen of death", no possibility recover (hard power-off required).
while tested workaround on dell vostro 1000, potentially other laptops ati/radeon graphics exhibit same kind of freeze after suspend ram. also, tested 64bit version only, reports german forum indicate solution should work 32bit installations.
in search solution, found thread in closed x64 forum: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...307618&page=29
note 29 pages of problem reports, sketchy solution.
here now, step step:
1.) go launchpad download recent jaunty driver ati video card. here link: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+archiv...-archive-extra
download following:
for 64bit systems:
xserver-xorg-video-ati_6.12.1-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb
xserver-xorg-video-radeon_6.12.1-0ubuntu2_amd64.deb
for 32bit systems:
xserver-xorg-video-ati_6.12.1-0ubuntu2_i386.deb
xserver-xorg-video-radeon_6.12.1-0ubuntu2_i386.deb
2.) in shell, type:
sudo dpkg -i --force-downgrade <xxx>/xserver-xorg-video-radeon_6.12.1-0ubuntu2_<yyy>.deb
sudo dpkg -i --force-downgrade <xxx>/xserver-xorg-video-ati_6.12.1-0ubuntu2_<yyy>.deb
note: replace "<xxx>" path folder stored packages , replace "<yyy>" "amd64" or "i386", depending on architecture.
3.) reboot system , try suspend , resume see if fix worked.
3a.) if worked, need keep synaptic updating drivers (broken) karmic drivers. typing in shell:
aptitude hold xserver-xorg-video-radeon
aptitude hold xserver-xorg-video-ati
3b.) if did not work: skip 3a) , startup update manager replace drivers current ones. should restore system point before following little guide.
always: before starting, clone system partition clonezilla , have current backups of everything. if murphy strikes, want prepared.
no guarantees, of course, did work me. may have move cursor after resume second "enter password" window appear.
4.) please report if worked , include laptop brand / model , if use 32bit or 64bit.
i think love you. got working on vostro 1000 too! think handle 3d accelerator problems faced in jaunty? not, seeing how it's same drivers, i'll give try anyways , hope it'll work through means don't understand.
again, you're amazing.
