Computer Won't Recognize USB Connection.

hello,

i got arduino starter kit , eager start messing around. having errors starting up. run mac os 10.12.2 (aka sierra). on 1.8.0 of arduino ide. when go 'tools' -> 'board'  have 'arduino/genuino uno' (which think have, although not 100% sure says uno, i've tried both , 'arduino uno wifi' options. computer seems recognizing the usb connections when check usb device tree can see 'atmega16u2' when arduino connected via usb, , not see when not. aligns chip on device. i've looked @ other threads, start talking these drivers ch34 something (which have tried install). none of seems working , answers given under threads seem less definitive. appreciated.

what odd: own identical arduino uno, did not come starter kit. using same usb cable -- arduino seems work fine. leads me believe 1 came starter kit defective. there way remedy this? thanks!

Sketch upload fails with Java error (___REMOVE___/bin/avrdude)!

Arduino Uno + KTY81/210 temperature sensor

hi, sorry, new , unsure lot of things, need clarification. haven't found information explains how , why things work, "do this, that" i following guide ( arduino-thermistor-temperature-sensor-tutorial ) connect thermistor arduino uno. here temperature sensor information: temp. sensor 2000r +-1% to92 part.no.:   kty81-210 name:   temp. sensor 2000r +-1% to92 description:   2.5mm, 1980...2020ohm, -55...+150°c and here sensor's data-sheet: sensor data-sheet i have connected same way in guide. works , values being serial printed. what don't understand: 1. thermistor's , resistor's ohm value should equal, correct? in case 2000 ohm? 2. thermistor has ptc, i'm guessing have invert math or use ntc thermistor instead correct values?
