Plugged LCD the wrong way, is it dead now?

hi guys,

this first post, before posting searched forum similar problem mine. didn't find definitive answer, here goes.

i have (or had) working lcd display. project, have pcb header lcd connected (image 1). header numbered this;

upper row:1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15
lower row:2,4,6,8,10,12,14,16

i wasn't paying attention when connected it, , did follow (image 2).
upper row:1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
lower row:10,11,12,13,14,15,16

after doing got sort of squares displayed (image 3).
then noticed wiring wrong, wired correct way , still got same results.

i unplugged pcb, , plugged breadboard test simple "hello world" program. still same blocks in image 3. if touch of lcd while it's displaying these blocks, image fades , comes back.

so wonder, did kill lcd when plugged wrong way? it's not dead yet, more brain dead still... :smiley-confuse:

thanks!

it dead, since working when correctly connected , not.  electronic chips typically destroyed when power connected wrong way around.  board incorporate reverse connection protection, sadly not appear true here.
