Adobe Reader 8 will not open any pdf files.

i have mac os x g5. have adobe reader 8 installed. cannot open pdf files. has never worked since installing it. tried going file> open with> adobe reader> error says: file not opened because file either not supported or has been damaged (for example sent email attachment , wasn't correctly coded). error occurs no matter file; email or web page.
any thoughts? thanks.

i have exact same problem g4 , tiger. yesterday installed reader 8.1 update , since can not open pdf files email or web page. no problem reader before installed update yesterday.

DHT11 Time out error using v0.4.1library
