Thread: How to change DPI for "X"

hello, i'm trying change dpi "x" fonts in firefox better. fonts in gnome looks nice, not in firefox , other applications. think it's because of dpi settings "x".

command "xdpyinfo | grep resolution" returns "90x88 dots per inch".
resolution of monitor 1680x1050.

fonts dpi gnome set 96, , looks nice.

i'm trying change dpi "x".
1) trying change /etc/x11/xorg.conf , add :
code:
section "monitor" displaysize 444 277 # 1680 x 1050 endsection
but after "x" doesn't starts @ all. change xorg.conf console , it's normal.

2) trying create "~/.xresources" file content
code:
xft.dpi: 96
but nothing changes.

i'm using ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala (amd 64)
monitor : dell 2209wa (1680 x 1050)
video card : nvidia

please me , i'm doing wrong , how can change dpi "x" ?
