VCNL4010 Proximity - Incorrect values

hello,

first off, newbie! trying measure proximity using vcnl4010 sensor, atmega328p , code (https://github.com/controleverythingcommunity/vcnl4010/blob/master/arduino/vcnl4010.ino).

i don't think there's wrong code, don't know whether right place ask help, lowest proximity value can around 2100 (about 12mm) way sensor should able measure distances 200mm. has had similar problem or suspicion what's wrong? i've tried different sensors, in case there might defective, , tried different pull-up resistor values. have measured current going sensor seemed okay.
