Thread: 4gig dualchannel ram vs 6gigs ram? performance hit?

i'm using 64bit kubuntu...with no swapfile (swappiness=0) , runs fast.. cant complain, er.. no complaints.. came 2 gigs of same speed pc5300 ram.. take performance hit due way 4 gigs of dual channel work, compared 4gigs+2 gigs of "non" dual channel ram? wondering..
2 gigs kinda sitting around doing nothing speak..

on 3 ghz pentium d machine running intrepid 64-bit, got 9% improvement in speed (using memtest) using dual-channel mode 2 gb vs 3 gb. need evaluate need ram versus "hands-on" speed.

got 10% speed pushing 4-4-4-12 speed versus normal cas speed ratings (5-5-5-15 believe). run memtest 20-30 complete cycles @ turbo settings make sure ram , motherboard stable @ higher speed settings.
