Issue w/Analog Microphone Readings
please let me know if not right section
the problem: sampling audio sound reactive rgb led strip nodemcu v3. when use usb power computer, works well. if power nodemcu 7805 linear regulator (5v) vin, works fine. "silent" conditions hang around 0 volts , audio levels show clearly. when power nodemcu 3.3v switching regulator (with microphone grounded on nodemcu , vcc coming 3v3 pin) problem starts. if have led strip unconnected, detects sound find (although "silent" conditions hover more around .1 volts purposes wouldn't issue).
the problem powering board , subsequent microphone switching regulator lights connected erratic voltage readings on place. might asking why not use linear regulator then? well, @ 12 volts (12v-5v)*( few hundred ma) decent amount of heat dissipate sure heat sink , control end goal project power 10m strip 24 volts , linear regulator have dissipate (24v-5v) * (few hundred ma) not think sustainable why got switching regulator in first place.
i told these switching regulators not play nicely microphones led strip unconnected wasn't consistent usb or linear regulator power still worked fine.
could explain why issue arises , way fix it? there series of tricks can use limit whatever interference occuring? should give on trying make switching regulator work? capacitors/resistors solve this?
i prefer use switching regulator efficiency reasons, second option wouldn't linear regulator powering node wall adapter , usb cable honest. getting quite frustrating, 1 problem's fix causes suppose thats how things go sometimes.
i including diagram of setup. please note linear regulator should switching regulator , board using not huzzah, nodemcu v3.
components:
-nodemcu v3
-adafruit electret mic
- switching regulator
-n type mosfets
-rgb led strip (currently 5 meter 12 volt 5050 leds, future: 10 meter 24 volt)
for suggestions if there solve issue, not worried if costs $5 versus linear regulator being <$1. more worried space, amount of cords, , relative efficiency.
would really appreciate in solving issue, pretty last part of pretty big , feature rich controller.
hopefully have included information needed.
thank , feel free ask questions!

are using decent decoupling capacitors? datasheet suggests 10µf on in- , output of regulator. solve noise get.
what 24v power source using? if pwm leds, 24v line may unstable, , therefore regulator unable provide stable 3.3v. maybe add decoupling caps on 24v line well, close fets.
hope helps,
